You may have noticed that there is a lot of crossover between the soccer crowd and the beer crowd. That's not just to say that soccer fans like beer, but a lot of soccer fans are beer nerds. They know all of the microbreweries, all of the best beers that you won't find at your local store and love it. Why soccer fans are often beer nerds, well, I don't know, but it's fine and dandy in my book.
With that in mind, we're going to run a beer of the day series on every gameday. Sometimes they'll be popular beers and other days they will be beers from a little brewery that nobody has ever heard of, but every match will have a beer of the day.
This time around, Smithwicks is our beer of the day for the United States vs. Jamaica and it's a pretty easy explanation why. Smithwicks is my favorite beer served at my local pub, Danny Coyles in San Francisco. The bar opens up early on Saturdays and Sundays for us to watch the European matches, is the San Francisco home to the American Outlaws Bay Area and is all around pretty fantastic. And when I go there, I get Smithwicks. Naturally, this time around, it is our beer of the day.
What are you drinking today? Do you have a special gameday beer or anything special for today's match in particular? Let us know and if you have a nomination for Tuesday's beer of the day, tell us why your favorite beer should be the unofficial beer of Tuesday's U.S./Jamaica rematch in Columbus. Drink up!
With beer and soccer combining forces here, I think it is only right that I point you in the direction of Free Beer Movement. Check it out and practice it.
