American fans hoping to see more of young star Rubio Rubin won't be too happy with the news out of training on Monday. According to Ives Galarcep, the 18-year-old attacker sat out due to an illness on Monday.
While that doesn't mean he won't start for the United States on Tuesday against Ireland, it would be a tad bit surprising if Klinsmann opted to play a teenager struggling with an illness in a friendly match. Hopefully he'll suit up, but don't be stunned if he doesn't.
Klinsmann has plenty of options at forward, and could opt to give fellow youngster Jordan Morris a look. There's also Bobby Wood, who has made a handful of recent substitute appearances, and veteran Chris Wondolowski. Miguel Ibarra, while usually a winger, is theoretically an option as well.
Given how good Rubin was against Colombia on Friday, this is disappointing, but we'll be seeing plenty more of the Utrecht man soon enough.
