United States women announce squad for Canada friendly

Hey, look, an Instagram account!

USA TODAY Sports

The United States women's national team has a new Instagram account, and they've decided to use it to announce their squad for their upcoming friendly against Canada. U.S. soccer still hasn't appointed a new full-time head coach, but interim boss Jill Ellis is taking this opportunity to call in some young players and recall some familiar faces that have been left out recently. Here's the squad.

The most notable name there is probably Morgan Brian, the squad's lone collegiate player. She plays for the University of Virginia and is still a year away from turning pro. Nikki Marshall is a new face for the USWNT, and the Portland Thorns defender will make her debut if she plays. The same goes for Allie Long, who has been in great form to start this season in NWSL after a slightly disappointing 2013 campaign.

Amy Rodriguez, who scored in a February friendly after sitting out for over a year due to a rough patch of form, then having a child, is also back in the squad. Alex Morgan is out, though, so Rodriguez is going to have to seriously impress in this match and in NWSL to keep her place in the team heading into more important friendlies and World Cup qualifying.
