Happy America Day, Americaland! Today, your United States men's national team takes on Ghana in their World Cup opener. We can all relax a tiny bit after Portugal's implosion, but we still realistically need a win to feel like we're going to get out of Group G.
There are no surprises in the United States' lineup, but Ghana's is a bit stunning. They're going with an ultra-attacking 4-4-2, with Michael Essien and Kevin-Prince Boateng dropped. They announced this lineup hours before the game. They don't respect us. At all.
United States lineup (4-4-2 diamond): Tim Howard; DaMarcus Beasley, Matt Besler, Geoff Cameron, Fabian Johnson; Kyle Beckerman, Jermaine Jones, Alejandro Bedoya, Michael Bradley; Clint Dempsey, Jozy Altidore
Ghana lineup (4-4-2): Adam Kwarasey; Kwadwo Asamoah, John Boye, Jonathan Mensah, Daniel Opare; Andre Ayew, Mohammed Rabiu, Sulley Muntari, Christian Atsu; Jordan Ayew, Asamoah Gyan
The game kicks off from Natal at 6 p.m. ET. There are over 500 members of American Outlaws there from their official trip and somewhere in the neighborhood of 20,000 U.S. supporters at the game. It's going to be amazing. This is your open thread, so chat away.
