Abby Wambach has announced her retirement from international soccer.
Currently she has 184 goals in 252 caps, 77 of them scored with her head. Her first cap was September 9, 2001 in a match against Gremany. Her first international goal came on April 27, 2002 against Finland and she pretty much hasn't stopped since then.
Wambach was named FIFA's player of the year in 2012, has two Olympic gold medals from 2004 and 2012, won the World Cup in 2015, and won a league championship with the Washington Freedom in WUSA. She has a list of individual accolades longer than most players' resumes.

Perhaps her most iconic moment was her last-gasp goal against Brazil in the quarterfinals of the 2011 World Cup. Here's a video (unfortunately without Ian Darke's unforgettable OH CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS commentary).
The quarterfinal was so fraught and so dramatic that when she returned home, many Americans told Wambach they thought the US had actually won the World Cup, though they ended up losing in the final to Japan.
Wambach went on to break Mia Hamm's all-time goalscoring record on June 20, 2013, in an international friendly against South Korea.
Wambach will play out the rest of the USWNT's World Cup Victory Tour, which ends on December 16 against China BR at the Superdome in New Orleans.
