USA to play Ireland in January friendly

The USWNT will pack in one more friendly this winter.

Michael Chow-USA TODAY Sports

Didn't get enough with the 10-game World Cup Victory Tour? Well US Soccer has a treat for you - another friendly for the USWNT, this time against the Republic of Ireland on January 23 in San Diego.

The US already has four friendlies jammed into the first half of December; then they'll presumably get a nice long Christmas and New Year's vacation, and then they'll go into camp to knock off the rust and prepare for CONCACAF Olympic qualifying.

Qualifiers will run February 10-21 in Frisco and Houston, TX, making this friendly against Ireland the last chance Jill Ellis will have to evaluate her roster before the tournament. Based on her current trend of calling in newer, younger players, there's every reason to believe Ellis will continue to evaluate players she hopes to integrate into the full senior team for the Olympics.

USA vs. Republic of Ireland kicks off at 2 PM PT at Qualcomm Stadium. As of yet, there is no information on a broadcast.
