Brad Guzan likely to regain Aston Villa's starting spot next season

After losing his job last last season it appears the USA's No. 1 will be back in the saddle for his club too

It was a rough end to the 2014-15 season for United States goalkeeper Brad Guzan and his club Aston Villa. After an embarrassing gaffe late in the year against Manchester City, the American was dropped in favor of veteran Shay Given. Given would go on to play out the rest of the campaign including conceding four goals in the F.A. Cup final.

It appears that Villa manager Tim Sherwood is ready to forgive and forget after losing out on several potential replacements in the transfer market. According to the Birmingham Mail, with Asmir Begovic, Tom Heaton and David Button all eluding the advances of the club, Guzan is likely to regain the No. 1 spot.

Before his demotion to the bench the former South Carolina Gamecock had appeared in 100 consecutive Premier League games for the club.

Guzan is currently with the U.S. national team on their Gold Cup adventure. He won the starting spot from Tim Howard when the Everton goalkeeper decided to take a break from international soccer. With Howard's self-imposed vacation of one year almost expired and the threat of him returning to the national team, the 2015-16 season will be a hugely important one in the career of Guzan.
