DeAndre Yedlin shows flashes of brilliance in Sunderland debut

United States international DeAndre Yedlin made his first appearance for Sunderland in the League Cup today. His side lost 4-1 to Manchester City, but the right back played well overall. His attacking flank play was highly impressive considering he hasn't played at the club level since April.

Yedlin should've had an assist in the first half after this brilliant piece of play where he chested up a long ball, flicked the ball over the defender's head, ran onto it, and delivered and inch-perfect cross. Unfortunately the striker couldn't finish off the chance, so all we have is this highlight to remember:

The young American got his deserved assist late in the match when his cross found Ola Toivonen at the near post for a headed goal. Here it is in all of its beauty:

The result won't look pretty, but moments like these will surely earn Yedlin more important minutes.

As for the USMNT, this type of play will go a long way in him keeping his starting place for the upcoming Mexico game.
