Jozy Altidore has a bad reputation for being a big brute target striker when in reality he’s anything but. He’s actually a very skillful player trapped inside a old school No. 9’s body. Time and time again during his stint at AZ Alkmaar he’d do some amazing things from the wing position, but since he’s a big body he gets pigeonholed into the target striker label.
Saturday night against D.C. United he showed off some of that skill on this amazing solo goal:
A solo stunner from @JozyAltidore. #TORvDC https://t.co/tSlWCCbIUG

After receiving a pass in front of fellow U.S. men’s national team player, Steve Birnbaum, Jozy proceeded to spin him like a top, round another USMNT candidate in Bill Hamid, and finish into an empty net.
This is the type of goal you’re used to seeing from Lionel Messi or another top skill player in the world not from Jozy Altidore.
This is his ninth goal of the season and likely his best. Hopefully he can continue his hot streak through November.
