Can the USMNT pull off the upset?

It’s very rare that the U.S. men’s national team go into a CONCACAF match as true underdogs. Away at Costa Rica is one of the of those few times as history tells us that playing there has been a flat out nightmare for the Americans. Having never won a match here before, Jurgen Klinsmann and his side have a tall task in front of them tonight.

After a complete debacle of a lineup against Mexico on Friday night, Klinsmann has elected to make some changes. As expected, Brad Guzan replaces the injured Tim Howard in goal. The 4-4-2 is back with Matt Besler playing left back and Fabian Johnson pushed into the midfield. It’s a pretty conventional lineup, which is a pleasant non-surprise after the previous match.

This match can be seen on beIN Sports and NBC Universo and will kick off just after 9:00 p.m. Eastern time. As always, head down the comments and give your thoughts on the lineup and the match as it happens. We’ll be back after for the usual post-match breakdown.

United States Lineup: Brad Guzan; Timmy Chandler, Omar Gonzalez, John Brooks, Matt Besler; Fabian Johnson, Michael Bradley, Jermaine Jones, Christian Pulisic; Bobby Wood, Jozy Altidore

Costa Rica Lineup: Keylor Navas; Jose Salvatierra, Kendall Waston, Johnny Acosta, Michael Umana, Ronald Matarrita; Christian Bolanos, Randall Azofeifa, Celso Borges, Bryan Ruiz; Johan Venegas
