Alan Gordon replaces Jordan Morris on USA’s World Cup qualifying roster

Due to injury

There’s been a change to the USMNT’s roster for World Cup qualifying. Jordan Morris, who picked up a hamstring injury in the Seattle Sounders’ playoff match against FC Dallas on Sunday night, has been replaced by LA Galaxy target man Alan Gordon.

Many knew this would be a possibility as soon as news of Morris’ injury was public knowledge. Speculated names to replace him included Juan Agudelo and Chris Wondolowski (who turns out is injured), however it’s the veteran Gordon who gets the honor of joining the team in an emergency situation.

The message of this move is pretty clear. Gordon will be a late-match super-sub to come on and try and change the game with his hold-up play and dramatic heroics as he’s done his entire MLS career.

He most likely won’t get more than 20 minutes (if any) during these two matches, but Klinsmann will be hoping he can be a game-changer if he does need to call on the big man.

Thoughts on this move? Does it make sense? Were you hoping for Agudelo?
