Stop me if you’ve heard this one before.
Bjorn Maars Johnsen... scored a goal.
Gasp
I know, right?
The 25-year old Norwegian-American — who is equal parts skyscraper and striker — scored in the 18th minute of Hearts’ 1-1 draw with Partick Thistle. He came close to scoring a second, but his volley went over the crossbar.
Here’s the highlight of the goal (starts around 0:25):
Johnsen has six goals this season for the Jambos after moving over from Bulgarian club Litex Lovech.
Fellow American Perry Kitchen started and play 90 minutes, but enough about him. Let’s talk more about the uncapped guy!
Johnsen was recently named the Scottish Premier League Player of the Month for November and has reportedly caught the eye of Championship club Derby County. As for his national team future, things are still up in the air.
“I do really want to play for [the USMNT],” Johnsen told American Soccer Now. “I know that I want to show myself on the big stage. America can give me that and I am also a patriot. Hopefully that will come with a call-up.”
Bruce Arena has a few in-form goal scorers he can turn to (Wood, Altidore, Morris, Wooten), so a call up in the near future is not guaranteed. However, Norway will eventually decide to give him a look, so perhaps it would be prudent to bring Johnsen in sooner rather than later.
