A couple of weeks ago the transfer mill began spinning around Portland Timbers midfielder Darlington Nagbe as he was spotted at Celtic Park attending a Champions League match between Celtic and Barcelona.
Rumors out of the UK began pouring out about Celtic’s supposed interest in the USMNT playmaker. Nagbe’s instagram posts of his visit didn’t do any to cool down the speculation, however the Timbers were adamant they expected to have him back for the 2017 MLS season.
According to Goal.com’s Ives Galarcep, Celtic’s interest in Nagbe is very real and the feeling is apparently mutual as the 26-year-old is said to be “seriously considering” a move abroad after six seasons in MLS.
Nagbe has done all he can in MLS. He’s made all-star teams, won MLS Cup, and even won himself a spot on the USMNT (temporarily). At the very peak of his prime years, it seems to be now or never if he wants to test himself at a higher level.
The question now for him to answer, is Celtic the right destination for that higher level of competition? I suppose we’ll find out that answer when the European transfer window opens in January.
