The United States women's national team are through to the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament semifinals after narrowly defeating rivals Mexico, 1-0. It was a rather pedestrian affair with Mexico defending resolutely and the U.S. failing to break them down for the majority of the match.
Reigning World Player of the Year Carli Lloyd finally broke the deadlock in the 79th minute from the penalty spot to send the U.S. on to the all-important semifinals which will decide who earns an automatic berth in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Unfortunately the match wasn't shown live on U.S. television, instead NBC was forced to stream the match on their online platform Extra Time and then show the match on tape delay later.
