Jerome Kiesewetter is one of the most unique players in the United States men's national team pool. His performances over the last year for the USA U-23's and on two occasions for the senior side have been stellar. He possesses the rare ability to beat defenders with pace and deliver dangerous balls into the box for his teammates. Despite his great work internationally, Kiesewetter can't sniff a game with his club team.
He is owned by Bundesliga team VfB Stuttgart, but usually spends his time with their reserve team in the German third-division. Even there he gets occasional starting opportunities and doesn't really stand out when those are presented to him.
It's clear as day that the German-American needs a change of scenery. According to kicker, that's exactly what is expected to happen this Summer when Kiesewetter's contract runs out. After this happens, he will become a free agent and be allowed to sign with any club he chooses. This couldn't come at a better time, either. He will play a huge part in the U-23's Olympic playoff against Colombia and likely the subsequent Olympic tournament if they qualify.
He impressed Klinsmann in January Camp with his dynamic wing play, but his club situation is doing him no favors as far as his international future is concerned. This is his chance to find a club that will allow him to play on a consistent basis and prove to the USMNT boss that he's ready for the senior team.
