The United States under-23 national team have finally decided on the 23 players that will travel to Barranquilla, Colombia for the first leg of the Olympic playoff. Head Coach Andi Herzog has finalized his roster that offers a few surprises.
The most talked about young talent in the player pool, Christian Pulisic, has not been named to the roster, nor has Rubio Rubin who is just coming back from an injury. Prized prospect Gedion Zelalem is no where to be found on the roster either. He was absent from the Rangers match day squad on Friday, so we can assume he's picked up an injury.
Cameron Carter-Vickers was replaced late by Walker Zimmerman because of injury.
Neither DeAndre Yedlin or John Brooks are on the roster. It's presumed that both will represent the senior team in World Cup qualifying instead. However, there's a chance they could be added for the second leg when rosters changes are allowed.
One pleasant surprise is the inclusion of Club Tijuana midfielder Paul Arriola. He's started the past two Liga MX matches for the team. He was one of the stars of the U-20 team in New Zealand last year but has yet to play for the U-23's.
Here is the full USA U-23 roster (NOTE: The roster can be changed after the first leg):
