By pretty much all accounts it's been an uneventful season for Gedion Zelalem while on-loan at Rangers. Sure, the famous club is all but guaranteed promotion, but the young American lost his starting spot about midway through the season and his been relegated to bench duty for months.

Arsene Wenger isn't ready to give up on the talented youngster, though. According to reports, the Arsenal boss will give Zelalem an opportunity to earn a spot with Arsenal's first-team next season. He'll be taking a long, hard look at the midfielder during the club's pre-season to determine if he's to stay with the London-based club or possibly go out on loan again.

Zelalem is still a very inexperienced soccer player. At just 19, he still has a lot of development still ahead of him. His status as 'the next big thing' in U.S. Soccer shouldn't deter his career path just because he hasn't turned into a star yet.

Perhaps Rangers just wasn't the right situation for him personally. He needs to either stick it out at Arsenal next season or find a better situation for him and his development. It's entirely possible that he impresses in pre-season and is kept around as a squad player (similar to Christian Pulisic's role at Borussia Dortmund currently). It's up to him and his performance this summer where his club future lies.
