Jozy Altidore out of Copa with hamstring injury

It's the latest setback in Altidore's battle with his hamstrings

Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY Sports

Jozy Altidore is likely out of the Copa America Centario with a right hamstring injury.

Altidore injured himself in a game against the Vancouver Whitecaps after taking a penalty kick and had to leave the field.

Now an update on his injury from the Toronto Sun indicates he'll be out six to eight weeks, and with USMNT training camp beginning this week and Copa scheduled to begin June 3, is extremely unlikely to participate. Instead Altidore is looking at a July return for TFC.

This is just the latest in a series of hamstring injuries for Altidore, who seems to be accumulating them at an accelerating rate, and an unfortunate turn of events for the MNT, who will now look to Gyasi Zardes, Jordan Morris, and Bobby Wood for goals. Jurgen Klinsmann will also no doubt be evaluating his roster against Puerto Rico with a slightly more critical eye, searching for someone who might be able to pick up the slack.
