Alejandro Bedoya may be on the move from Nantes this summer, but he's not planning on coming home just yet. The U.S. international recently stated his desire to play at a higher level than Ligue 1, an already prestigious league where he logged 28 appearances this season, contributing to Nantes’ 14th place finish.
"I've always been an ambitious person, so of course I've always wanted to try to play at the highest level you can," Bedoya told reporters at the U.S. camp. "France is one of the best leagues, but I think I'd like to try to see if I could maybe make it to a higher level. We'll see what happens."
Although unusual, it’s not unrealistic to think Bedoya could make his big move to the Premier League at the age of 29. If that sounds crazy, remind yourself just three years ago he was playing for Helsingborgs IF in the Swedish top flight.
In fact, reports have surfaced stating multiple English clubs sent scouts to watch Bedoya in Nantes’ French Cup tie against Sochaux this March.
A player who would be a great fit for almost any squad because of his versatility and work rate, Bedoya should have a number of suitors this summer. Even if interest stalls, Bedoya is under contract with Nantes until 2019. However, a strong showing in the Copa America Centenario would most likely prevent that from being anything but a technicality.
