The United States men's national team have won Group A of the Copa America Centenario after Colombia were upset by Costa Rica, 3-2, in the final match of the group. The Colombians, feeling confident of their standing in the group, rested 10 of their starters for the match and paid dearly for it. Colombia and the USA finish even on six points, but the USA win the group thanks to goal differential.
The USA will now go on to play in Seattle on Thursday night and wait on the runner-up of Group B. That could be three different teams. Brazil, Peru, or Ecuador all could end up in the second spot.
After beating Paraguay, 1-0, in a gritty affair earlier in the night, all the Americans could do is watch and hope that their CONCACAF brethren could pull off a huge upset over Colombia. That's exactly what they did as the scrappy Ticos gave it all they had and pulled of the stunning upset over the No. 3 team in the world. With the loss Colombia drop to second in the group and will play the Group B winner in New Jersey on Friday.
We shall now wait and see how the chips fall on Sunday night and who the USA will end up playing at CenturyLink Field on Thursday night.
