US Soccer has revealed the USWNT's final sendoff game before they leave for the Rio Olympics. The United States will play Costa Rica on July 22 at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City.
This will be the second of two July games for the WNT; the first will be against South Africa on July 9 at Soldier Field in Chicago.
The United States last played Costa Rica in Olympic qualifying, beating them 5-0 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco. Costa Rica is a young up-and-coming CONCACAF side with dynamic leadership in the form head coach Amelia Valverde. Valverde took over the Costa Rican squad early in 2015, just months before the World Cup. They managed two draws and one loss in group stage, scoring against Spain and South Korea and narrowly losing 1-0 to Brazil. They should make for an entertaining but not too high-stress sendoff game, which is exactly what you want right before a big tournament.
The United States is 13-0-0 all time against Costa Rica.
The game will kick off at 9 PM ET and will air live on ESPN.
