Today is the day. The Copa America Centenario quarterfinals are upon us. A lot of folks thought the United States wouldn't even make it this far, but here they are winners of Group A and in with a real chance of making it to the semifinals. Jurgen Klinsmann's stated goal for this tournament is within reach. All that stands in between the Stars and Stripes and the final four is familiar foe Ecuador.
As I'm sure you are aware and probably tired of hearing about, these two teams played each other in late May with the U.S. coming out on top thanks to a late Darlington Nagbe goal. That was then and this is now. Both sides have grown a lot over the last three weeks and will enter tonight's match with a point to prove.
Jurgen Klinsmann has made one change out of necessity. With DeAndre Yedlin suspended following a red card against Paraguay, Matt Belser has been inserted into the lineup at left back with Fabian Johnson shifted over to right back. Most thought it would be Michael Orozco filling in for Yedlin in a like-for-like swap, but Klinsmann has decided to mix it up a bit.
Tonight's match is scheduled to kick off at 9:30 p.m. ET and will air in English on Fox Sports 1 and in Spanish on UniMas. JP Dellacamera and Landon Donovan will be on the call.
United States Lineup: Brad Guzan; Fabian Johnson, Geoff Cameron, John Brooks, Matt Besler; Michael Bradley, Jermaine Jones, Alejandro Bedoya; Gyasi Zardes, Clint Dempsey, Bobby Wood
Ecuador Lineup: Alexander Dominguez; Arturo Mina, Frickson Erazo, Juan Carlos Paredes, Walter Ayovi; Michael Arroyo, Christian Noboa, Jefferson Montero, Antonio Valencia; Enner Valencia
