The United States men's national team is taking on Argentina in the semifinals of the Copa America Centenario.
It should be no surprise to anyone that Argentina is favored to win by odds makers:
Paddy Power: Argentina is favored (1/2) over the U.S. (11/2)
Bet Online: Argentina is favored (-204) over the U.S. (+500)
5 Dimes: Argentina is favored (-200) over the U.S. (+671)
The USMNT advanced to the semifinal by beating Ecuador, 2-1. Argentina defeated Venezuela, 4-1.
Argentina was obviously going to be heavily favored heading into this match as they're the top ranked team in the world and have arguably the best player in the world. They eased through the group stage without breaking much of a sweat, and should advance to the final barring a herculean effort by the Americans.
The U.S. will be missing multiple key players (Jermaine Jones, Alejandro Bedoya, and Bobby Wood). However, they will be playing at "home" and have two extra days of rest. A win would be one of the biggest and most unexpected results of Jurgen Klinsmann's tenure.
Can the U.S. shock the world and defeat Argentina with a shorthanded squad? We'll find out Tuesday night.
Prediction: Argentina wins, 3-1
