According to ESPNFC, the United States men’s national team are close to finalizing a friendly against a familiar foe. If agreed upon, the USA would play Ghana in a friendly in October says the report.

The proposed friendly would take place on October 11 and be played at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. That match would follow the already announced friendly away to Cuba on October 7.

The USMNT and Ghana are no stranger to one another. They have played each other in each of the last three World Cups. Ghana knocking the U.S. out in both 2006 and 2010, while the USA finally got their revenge in 2014 thanks to John Brooks’ iconic late goal.

It’s shaping up to be a busy Fall for the U.S. as World Cup qualifying resumes in September with two match against Trinidad and Tobago and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. If the U.S. is successful in finishing in the top 2 of their qualifying group, they’ll advance to the final stage of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying that begins in November.

Ghana would certainly be a much tougher test for the Americans than Cuba will be. If the match is finalized it would be good preparation for the Hex if they make it that far.
