Your daily DeAndre Yedlin transfer update has arrived. ESPNFC are reporting that Sunderland are still trying to sign the United States right back before the summer transfer window closes.
Tottenham and Sunderland both opened their Premier League campaigns on Saturday. Spurs drew 1-1 against Everton, while the Black Cats dropped a hard fought one to Manchester City, 2-1.
Newly-acquired defender, Donald Love, got the start at right back for Sunderland in the season opener. Meanwhile, Yedlin was left out of Spurs’ match day squad, which could indicate a move it close to coming to fruition.
Yedlin’s time at Sunderland last season was very helpful in the 23-year-old’s development as a defensive-minded player. There, he was forced to stay back on defense way more than any other time in his career. Toward the end of the season, he became more aware defensively and earned massive praise from then manager, Sam Allardyce.
If Yedlin’s move back to the Stadium of Light goes through, you can expect more of the same this season in terms of his aggressiveness on the flanks and willingness to bomb forward. Which, overall, could be very good for his continuing development as a fullback.
