Remember Matt Miazga? It’s been a week or so since we last caught up with the young Chelsea defender and his transfer saga. Despite many a rumor, like one linking him to Sunderland, the 20-year-old is still chilling at Stamford Bridge waiting to see what his future holds this season.
Deadline day is upon us as the summer transfer window in England and all across most of Europe closes at 11:30 p.m. GMT (6:30 p.m. ET).
Reports suggest that Matt Miazga’s loan move is being held up by Chelsea’s inability to sign defensive reinforcements. So, as long as Antonio Conte and his staff swing and miss on their transfer targets, as they’ve already done with the likes of Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, the U.S. international is stuck.
Rumors will likely be flying all day regarding many different players. Surely some American names will pop up with Miazga’s being the most likely to leave their current situation.
There’s also a chance Gedion Zelalam could leave Arsenal on loan. A report from Tuesday suggested that Bolton Wanderers are interested.
As our pals at Once A Metro point out, if any American player in the Premier League (i.e. Miazga or Zelalem) are to leave on loan, new rules state that they must do so during the transfer window.
While everyone is on Transfer Watch, we’ll be here on Miazga Watch and keep you updated throughout the day.
