Yet another American player has scored a goal in Europe. Fabian Johnson has notched his first goal of the Bundesliga season in a 1-1 draw against RB Leipzig. The Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder (yes, he still plays midfield for his club) got on the score sheet in the 84th minute in their away match with a great left-footed finish:
It’s good to see him back in the starting lineup. It’s his first start of the Bundesliga season after beginning the first two matches on the bench. Playing time hasn’t been as certain for him as you’d expect. He seems to have dropped down to squad player status.
However, goals like this will certainly help him increase his minutes and dependability with the manager.
It’s moments like these that have fans wishing he’d play in the midfield for the national team on a consistent basis despite him being the hands down best option at left back. It’s really a matter of philosophy when choosing.
