It was supposed to be a good day for DeAndre Yedlin, who was named to the starting lineup by Rafa Benitez for the second straight match and the first time in league play. It began as such as he forced an own-goal with a cross for the match’s only goal (so far).
However, he was forced off the field in the 73rd minute after a clash with Aston Villa’s Jordan Ayew.
73' - DeAndre Yedlin down again for United and he receives treatment towards the Holte End. Cheick Tioté will come on in his place. #NUFC

Our very own Roderick MacNeil was watching the match and seems to indicate the Magpies trainer was looking at his ankle.
Educated guess on Yedlin: twisted/sprained ankle. Non-contact, pulled up hopping a bit. Trainer seemed focused there; walked off on his own.

Hopefully it’s nothing too serious and he doesn’t miss much time. We’ll update his status when we know more.
If he has to miss the upcoming USMNT friendlies against Cuba and New Zealand it could be a blessing in disguise as long as those are the only matches he misses.
Someone like the Philadelphia Union’s Keegan Rosenberry would be great to give a look to if Yedlin cannot make it.
