Tuesday was an incredible moment for 18-year-old American, Christian Pulisic. The Borussia Dortmund midfielder came on as a substitute against Real Madrid in the Champions League group stage and played a huge part it setting up the club’s late equalizing goal.
If coming onto the field in a tight game against one of the most prestigous soccer clubs that has ever existed wasn’t enough, the youngster make a huge impact.
“It was an amazing game to come into,” Pulisic told reporters after the match. “The level was so high. It was such an intense game. I was so excited to get in there to show what I can do and help the team.”
The U.S. international has dealt with his fair share of intense match-ups and situations already early on in his career. Just three months ago, he shared the field with Lionel Messi in the Copa America semi-final. Now he’s playing against Cristiano Ronaldo in the Champions League.
Pulisic’s darting run past two defenders and cross into the box eventually led to Andre Schurrle’s match-tying goal.
“What a goal to score in that moment, in that stadium, against a good opponent. It was just a great feeling for everyone.”
It’s just another fantastic moment for the budding star early in his career. He just keeps on upping the ante in terms of situations and moments we haven’t seen from an American player, perhaps ever.
