The United States men’s national team conclude the semi-final round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying tonight in Jacksonville when they host Trinidad & Tobago in a match that will decide who takes top spot in Group 3.
While the Soca Warriors clinched passage into the final Hexagonal round with a 2-2 draw against Guatemala on Friday, the U.S. still aren’t mathematically through. Although, it would take something out-of-this-world extraordinary for Guatemala to overcome the 12-goal goal differential in between them and the Americans.
Jurgen Klinsmann has gone on record saying that he wants to leave no doubt by winning this match even though that would result in opening the Hex with a match against rivals Mexico. It should be an interesting match with both teams looking for the win.
He has made several changes to the side that beat Vincy Heat on Friday. Most notably, is 17-year-old Christian Pulisic getting his first ever start for the national team. He’s joined in the midfield by fellow second half star Sacha Kljestan.
The match can be seen live on Fox Sports 1, UniMas, or Univision Deportes. Kick-off is scheduled for around 8:15 p.m. ET. If the U.S. win, they finish atop Group 3 and face El Tri at home in November.
United States lineup: Tim Howard; Geoff Cameron, Steve Birnbaum, Omar Gonzalez, Fabian Johnson; Alejandro Bedoya, Michael Bradley, Sacha Kljestan, Christian Pulisic; Bobby Wood, Jozy Altidore
