Jermaine Jones, Sacha Kljestan depart USMNT camp

Roster down to 21 players.

Soccer: U.S. Men's National International Friendly-Serbia at USA Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

U.S. Soccer have announced that both Sacha Kljestan and Jermaine Jones have been sent home from the current January camp for different reasons. Jones, who is suspended for the USMNT’s next World Cup qualifier against Honduras, was allowed to stay on the west coast and join his new club the LA Galaxy for their preseason camp. This move is supposed to allow Arena to evaluate more midfielders ahead of the March qualifiers.

Kljestan’s departure is to allow him to return home to his wife who is expected to give birth sometime this week.

Sebastian Lletget replaced Jones at halftime of the USA’s 0-0 draw against Serbia on Sunday and did fairly well. Hopefully he gets another look on Friday against Jamaica to see if he can fill Jones’ role in a starting capacity come March.

Options to replace Kljestan in the No. 10 spot include Benny Feilhaber or shifting Darlington Nagbe over from the wing. Let us know in the comments what you hope the lineup Friday looks like.

Here’s the current USMNT roster as it stands:
