The young striker couldn’t find the field in Holland.

FC Utrecht have announced the permanent transfer of American striker Rubio Rubin to Danish Superliga side Silkeborg IF. The transfer was completed on deadline day in Europe.

During his two-plus seasons in the Eredivisie, Rubin appeared for Utrecht 41 times, scoring just three times. After an encouraging first season at the club breaking in as an 18-year-old, he struggled with injuries and never regained the form that won him the spot in the first team.

At 18, he was considered one of the brightest prospects in American soccer, earning his first USMNT cap in 2014. Now at age 20 he’s fallen out of favor in the Netherlands and has moved to the Danish Superliga.

Silkeborg IF are currently in 10th place in the league through 21 matches played. Last season they were promoted to the Superliga after finishing second in the second division.

Hopefully this is a move that gets Rubin on the field consistently and helps him regain his goalscoring form.
