As fans of the United States men’s national team, let’s be honest, there’s just not a whole lot to look forward to between now and 2019. We have to find small moments to focus in on, whether it’s Jonathan Gonzalez in the Liga MX playoffs or two young Americans facing off in the Bundesliga.
The latter scenario plays itself out in full force on Saturday as Weston McKennie’s Schalke travel to Christian Pulisic’s Borussia Dortmund. The two clubs are natural rivals and are heading in completely different directions lately. Schalke have stormed up the table all the way to second with a hot run of form, while Dortmund have floundered massively dropping from first to fifth in a matter of four weeks.
While in general this match is a must-watch for any soccer fan, it’s a little less guaranteed to be a main attraction for us. Yes, both teams feature two of the top American stars in the game today. However, neither are locks for playing time in this one. McKennie is still working his way into the mix for Schalke but has started in two straight matches. Hopefully that trend continues and if it doesn’t, hopefully we see him off the bench. For Pulisic, his status is a little more cloudy as he’s missed Dortmund’s last two matches with a muscle problem and is reportedly doubtful for this one.
Whether to the two square off on the field or not, you’ll be happy to know that they are great friends off the field. FOX did a great segment on them that you can watch here:

The two even spent Thanksgiving together and shared a meal in Germany to celebrate the American holiday:
They'll be derby rivals tomorrow, but Weston McKennie and Christian Pulisic still spent Thanksgiving together.

It’s possible that these two will meet for the first time ever on the professional scene, but what’s certain is that they will be linked together for quite some time as two pillars of the USMNT’s current rebuild into 2022.
Are you excited for the derby? Here’s how you can watch it on Saturday morning:
