The Yanks Abroad scored a pair of goals over the weekend, although one of them was an own goal and the other was all the way down in the 3 Liga in Germany. But we had other bits of good news as Geoff Cameron returned from a concussion and Jonathon Klinsmann got the start in the Europa League.
Check out some of the highs & lows from this past week:
Christian Pulisic
Pulisic played in both matches for Dortmund this past week. He was faced with a tough task in the UCL against Real Madrid last Wednesday. But he actually played pretty well in the 3-2 loss. The 19 year old even got the better of Sergio Ramos a couple times. BvB were eliminated and now head to the Europa League. Their struggles in the Bundesliga continued on Saturday in a 2-1 loss at home to Werder Bremen. Pulisic was dispossessed three times, lost 13 duels/aerials and was out of sync like the rest of his team. Dortmund have now fallen all the way to 8th place.
Weston McKennie
McKennie went the distance in a top of the table clash between 3rd place Schalke and 4th place Borussia Mönchengladbach. The 19 year old continued his work-horse role in the midfield completing 24/29 passes and added 3 clearances & 3 interceptions. Schalke kept their one point lead over Gladbach and are just one point out of 2nd place (Bayern is of course 8 points clear atop the table).
Joe Gyau
The 25 year old Tampa native scored a goal for Sonnenhof in the 58’ min of a 4-1 win over Münster in the third tier of German football.

Geoff Cameron
Cameron has been recovering from concussion but made his return for the final 15 minutes against Tottenham. Harry Kane and Co tore Stoke apart to a 5-1 finish, but at least all the goals were scored before Cameron appeared. I’m happy to see him get back on the field as he had reached the point of questioning if his career had come to an end.
Bobby Wood
Sidelined with a knee injury picked up on December 8th. It is unclear if he will be available this weekend.
Jonathon Klinsmann
The 20 year old made his Europa League debut last Thursday as he started in goal for Hertha Berlin’s 1-1 draw with Östersunds FK. The club’s two other keepers were dealing with injuries, but the California native got the nod and turned in a solid performance.
Caleb Stanko
He came on in the 17th min for Freiburg and scored an own-goal 12 mins later. But Frieburg were still able to get the 4-3 win over Cologne.
DeAndre Yedlin
He was back in the starting lineup for Newcastle against Leicester City on Saturday. He played all 90 of a back & forth brawl in which LCFC would get the 3-2 win off an own goal in the 86’ min. It was a fairly quiet day for Yedlin as he finished with 75% passing (18/24).
John Anthony Brooks
The Wolfsburg center-back went 90 & got the 0-0 win at Hamburg. That makes back to back shutouts for Brooks and the Wolfsburg back line.
Lynden Gooch
Gooch was subbed out in the 89’ min in Sunderland’s 0-0 draw with Wolverhampton. He played well and even earned some praise after the match. Sunderland earned a point against the league leaders, but they are still in a position to be relegated to League One next season.
Tim Ream
He went 90 and got the shutout in central defense for Fulham on Saturday. They defeated Birmingham City 1-0.
Antonee Robinson
The Everton loanee went 90 for Bolton in a 3-2 loss to Nottingham Forrest. Unfortunately, it was a poor performance from Robinson. He didn’t pass the ball very well from the right-back position, he also lost the ball a few times and was out muscled. It was a disappointing follow up to a good performance the week prior.
Alfredo Morales
He went the distance for Ingolstadt in 1-1 a draw vs Kaiserslautern.
Terrence Boyd
The The 26 year old forward played all 90 minutes for Darmstadt but he was unable to get them on the board as they were shutout 1-0 by Erzgebirge Aue in the 2. Bundesliga.
Julian Green
Stuttgart loanee went the distance for Greuther Fuerth as they defeated Heidenheim 1-0.
Jonathan Gonzalez
Appeared for 80 minutes in the 2nd leg of the Liga MX final, although his Monterrey side were defeated 2-1 (3-2 agg) by Tigres.
Jose Torres
Although he hasn’t appeared for the USMNT since 2013, and although he barely played at all this season, I’m including because he won something. He was in the lineup but did not feature in the final.
Let us know in the comments if there were any other performances not included this week!
