DeAndre Yedlin and Newcastle United were involved in one of the craziest plays and matches you’ll see all year. The Magpies were one point behind Championship leaders Brighton heading into Tuesday’s all-important top of the table clash. It looked like it was going to be a rotten night for Yedlin and his side, but in the 80th minute something miraculous happened.

Down 1-0, Newcastle United scored possibly the luckiest goal you’ll ever see in your life. On a corner kick attempt, Brighton’s keeper punched the cross out to top of the box where an attacker stood. He attempted a full volley that was so woefully mishit, it struck a teammate standing to his far right. That teammate nicked the ball off of another and the ball floated perfectly into the goal. Words cannot truly describe the goal, just watch it for yourself:

In the 89th minute, Ayoze Perez gave Newcastle the lead and the valuable three points to leapfrog Brighton and take the lead atop the table. They now have a two-point cushion over the former leaders and an eight-point lead over the third-place team.

Yedlin has been in great form this season and their fans are smitten with him:

After seeing several American players go to England over the last few years and get harassed by fans for their failures, it’s refreshing to see Yedlin win over a fan base as they appear destined for a great ending to the season.
