The UEFA Women’s Champions League final is here as Alex Morgan and Olympique Lyonnais take on fellow French team Paris Saint-Germain in Cardiff.

Lyon already handed PSG an important loss in the French Cup after winning on penalties. This is PSG’s chance to exact a little revenge, if they can. Lyon’s bench has the edge, although PSG certainly isn’t lacking for exciting players with Laure Boulleau, Cristiane, and young Ashley Lawrence. But Lyon is the juggernaut, pulling in top international players with money no other team can match quite yet.

If PSG can pull this off, it won’t quite be a feel-good movie level upset since PSG isn’t exactly David to Lyon’s Goliath, but it will certainly be unexpected. But that just means all the expectation is on Lyon, which could allow PSG more room to just play their game.

Alex Morgan is returning from a hamstring injury (sustained during a match against none other than PSG) that kept her out of the French Cup final; we’ll see if she gets a start here. She’s scored 12 goals in 15 matches across all competitions for Lyon and a Champions League final would be a serious bit of hardware to add to her collection. In a league where Lyon ended with a +97 goal differential, one of the biggest selling points for luring Morgan to France had to have been the chance to win in Champions League. Without that trophy, it’ll probably feel like mission not accomplished for Morgan, who is expected to return to the Orlando Pride in NWSL.
