The teenager was subbed on in the 53rd minute for Sandhausen with the score still close at 1-0. The degree of difficulty on this goal wasn’t incredibly high, as Sandhausen won the ball far up the pitch and had a 2 attackers in on goal with only one defender and the goalkeepers between them. Still, Wright did well to hold his run and find the pocket of space the defender allowed him, then took a touch and finished simply past the oncoming keeper. It wasn’t flashy, but it was the type of smart, simple, and controlled play that you’d like to see out of a teen making his professional debut. With Weston McKennie drawing praise at Schalke, it’s good to see his club teammate starting his loan out in such a positive way.
