24 year-old Seattle native DeAndre Yedlin picked up a hamstring injury when Newcastle United played German side Mainz. This means he’ll miss the upcoming kickoff to the premier league season as Newcastle is set to start their campaign on August 13th.

According to Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez, “We think it’s two or three weeks that he will be out.” This is not good news if you’re a Newcastle or USMNT fan. Two to three weeks out on injury could put his play in the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers in jeopardy. The USMNT face Costa Rica at home on September 1st and then head to Honduras on September 5th.

If he’s out, that also means Sporting Kansas City’s Graham Zusi will most likely get the call up to fill in for the ailing Yedlin. Zusi is a definite downgrade and with the Ticos on the horizon it could be a tad bit nerve wracking.
