The United States will begin 2018 World Cup qualifying on November 13 and 17 when they take on St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago, and Jurgen Klinsmann has his roster for those matches. It's a young roster featuring a couple young players that hints and an upcoming turnover Klinsmann hinted at last month.
Matt Miazga is the American youth program's shining young star and he has earned his first ever senior team call up. He's expected to be the centerpiece of the U.S. defense for the next decade and whether he gets a look in these matches or sits on the bench, getting him his first call-up is a big step.
Jordan Morris, also joins Miazga on the roster as the youth movement continues. Darlington Nagbe isn't necessarily young, but he's getting his first call-up in his first opportunity since gaining citizenship, while young stalwarts DeAndre Yedlin and Gyasi Zardes also made the cut. Then again, the likes of Alan Gordon and Kyle Beckerman are on the team so there's an old tint to it too.
It's worth noting that Fabian Johnson made the team. After the tiff between he and Klinsmann at the CONCACAF Cup there was some concern he would be frozen out for a while, but he's right back in.
Clint Dempsey is the most surprising omission from the team, but Klinsmann is going with a younger team here and Dempsey is 32 years old. He's also not been in his best form of late and the Sounders could be preparing for the Western Conference final so rest ahead of that wouldn't be a terrible idea.
The U.S. are in the semifinal round of qualifying, which places teams in groups of four and the top two advance to the final round. The Americans are heavy favorites to advance from their group, which is pretty weak with St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and Guatemala.
