U.S. international Weston McKennie has been enjoying a breakout season with Bundesliga side Schalke 04, but over the weekend things took a turn for the 19 year-old from Texas after he subbed on for Bayern Munich-bound Leon Goretzka in the 63rd minute against Hannover.

McKennie would only last twenty minutes before he had a clash of knees with Hannover’s Felix Kraus and went down holding his knee. He got back up and tried to play through it, but couldn’t. The trainer came out to help McKennie off the pitch for treatment; he didn’t return to the match and Benjamin Stambouli was subbed on for the youngster.

After further examination it was announced that he had partially ruptured his MCL, and will now be out for at least six weeks. This comes at a bad time, as the youngster was staring more playing time in the face with Goretzka headed to the defending Bundesliga champ’s Bayern Munich.

Here’s to a speedy recovery.
