USMNT youngster Weston McKennie has scored the winning goal for Schalke 04 in their Champions League match-up with Lokomotiv Moscow:

McKennie started the game and was active throughout playing in his central midfield position. However, neither team was able to find a breakthrough until McKennie’s header off a corner in the 88th minute.

It’s been a great start to the Champions League for McKennie who assisted on Schalke’s only goal in their first match, a 1-1 draw with F.C. Porto and now has scored the game winner in their second match.

The road win puts Schalke in a good position in their group, currently sitting in first place with Porto and Galatasaray still to play this afternoon. The group was thought by many to be one of the weakest in the tournament with Schalke having as good a chance as any to advance.

With the goal McKennie became the eighth American to ever score in the UEFA Champions League. Here’s hoping that it’s the first of many impactful moments for the young American moving forward.
