Yanks Abroad: Novakovich assists, ups and downs in Bundesliga

We had several absences over the weekend, but there was plenty of action from the Yanks playing abroad this past week.

A clever assist from Andrija Novakovich was the highlight as several Americans were out of the lineup this weekend. That includes DeAndre Yedlin who was serving a suspension for a red card. Youngsters Josh Sargent & Haji Wright got back on a Bundesliga field again this week as well. We even have a title winner in Joe Corona with Club America.

But it wasn’t all find and dandy, of course. Let’s take a look around the glob at the Yanks Abroad:

Netherlands

Andrija Novakovich
The Fortuna Sittard man played all 90 minutes and added a classy assist as well. But he only completed 61% of his passes and lost possession eight times. You can find more on him in the Youth Update as well. VIDEO

Germany

John Brooks
He helped lock down the shutout as Wolfsburg defeated Nürnberg 2-0, completing 82% of his passes along the way. Brooks had six clearances, two interceptions, four recoveries, and he won eight out of ten duels on the day.

Christian Pulisic
Pulisic came off the bench in the 89th minute in Borussia Dortmund’s 2-1 win over Werder Bremen. He’s currently behind the phenom Jadon Sancho in the pecking order. Through 15 Bundesliga games, BvB has opened up a nine point cushion atop the league.

Josh Sargent
Another Yank appeared in the match as well with Sargent getting seven minutes. It was just enough time for him to get a yellow card. That’s two straight appearances for the 18-year-old and I would be happy to have another regular addition to the Yanks Abroad going forward! (Youth Update)

Haji Wright
Wright entered the match to start the 2nd half and had some nice moments in his appearance. He even the match winner in the net, but was a step offside and VAR took it away. (Youth Update)

Fabian Johnson
He got on the field for 16 minutes for 2nd place Borussia Mönchengladbach’s 0-0 draw with Hoffenheim. Not that he had a lot of time, but it wasn’t exactly the kind of inspiring performance to win him more time on the field, as he completed just 29% of his passes (two out of seven).

Julian Green
Green got the start and played 57 minutes before being subbed out. Gruether Fürth were shutout 2-0 at St. Pauli. He had one key pass (82% on the day), three clearances, and was dispossessed once.

Andrew Wooten
Wooten scored his first goal for Sandhausen in a 77 minute appearance during a 2-2 draw with Jahn Regensburg. He finished with 82% passing and two key passes, but he was also dispossessed twice. VIDEO

Jann George
George started on the other side of the field against Wooten for Jahn Regensburg. He went the distance completing 62% of his passes along the way. He had five recoveries and was the most fouled player on the field with 4.

Joe Gyau
He came off the bench for 22 minutes as Duisburg fell to Hamburger SV 2-1. He was very quiet and struggled to get involved. He had just two touches but completed two passes.

England

Tim Ream
The centerback played the first 45 minutes of Fulham’s 2-0 loss at the hands of West Ham. That leaves them at the very bottom of the Premier League. Ream only had 18 touches on the ball but completed 15/16 passes (the best rate of any player with 45 mins or more).

Cameron Carter-Vickers
20-year-old CCV came on for the 2nd half of Swansea’s 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday. He’s played the entire match just three times this season while on loan from Tottenham. He finished the day with 91% passing and had three clearances, an interception, and a recovery.

Lynden Gooch
Gooch started and went 86 minutes as Sunderland came back to defeat Bristol Rovers 2-1. He picked up a yellow card and was taken off three minutes later. Sunderland are five points out of first place with two games in hand.

Scotland

Emerson Hyndman
The Hibernian man was on the field for all 90 minutes as they shutout Celtic 2-0. It’s good to see him put in a full shift, which has been hard to come by for the 22-year-old midfielder.

Belgium

Ethan Horvath
Horvath was in goal for Club Brugge as they drew with Kortrijk 0-0. Brugge is in 2nd place in the First Division A behind Genk.

Brendan Hines-Ike
He was on the other side of the field for the riveting 0-0 draw with Brugge. But the centerback will be proud of contributing to the shutout.

Austria

Josh Gatt
Gatt scored a goal in the 40th minute as Rheindorf Altach demolished Hartberg by a final of 6-1. He also picked up a yellow card.

Denmark

Jonathan Amon
The 19-year-old came off the bench in the 46th minute as Nordsjælland were shutout by Esbjerg fB 3-0. He finished with 76% passing, winning six out of eight duels, and adding five recoveries. Amon was also two out of three in dribbles attempted as well as tackles.

Emmanuel Sabbi
He’s been named to the starting lineup for Hobro’s match at AGF Aarhus on Monday.

Mexico

Joe Corona
Corona entered the match for Club America in the 77th minute as they defeated Cruz Azul to win the Liga MX title by 2-0 on aggregate.

Spain

Shaq Moore
Shaq went 90 minutes for Reus in a 1-1 draw. They are sitting in the relegation zone at the moment to be sent down to the third division.
