Alex Morgan has been voted US Soccer female player of the year.
The original five nominees were:
Julie Ertz
Lindsey Horan
Tobin Heath
Alex Morgan
Megan Rapinoe
Player of the year is voted on by men’s, women’s, and youth NT coaches and staff; NT players who have earned a cap in 2018; MLS, NASL, USL, and NWSL head coaches and some former players; administrators; and media members.
Morgan scored 18 goals in 19 games in 2018, with three assists, although it’s a sign of how truly bonkers Alex Morgan can be that this is not even close to her personal best.
Morgan was also SSFC’s player of the year, with our own Sandra Herrera noting her clinical finishing, particularly Alex-Morganian in 2018, and her hold up play in the 4-3-3.
Tierna Davidson took home young female player of the year; it’s not hard to see why, as she made big strides in cementing a place among the senior team’s defense and is certainly in heavy contention for a World Cup roster spot.
Davidson was nominated alongside Sunshine Fontes, Maya Doms, Sophia Jones, and Allyson Sentnor.
Did the voters get it right? Who was your player of the year?
