The United States women’s national team previously announced they would play Mexico in an April friendly. They have now confirmed that they’ll be making it a pair of friendlies, announcing they’ll first play Mexico on April 5 at Everbank Field in Jacksonville. This fits their preferred format of playing a pair of friendlies during FIFA windows, this one running from April 4 - 22 to accommodate the AFC Asian Cup.
With NWSL opening weekend scheduled for March 24-25, players will probably stop with their clubs for those games, and then be off again for NT camp and both games. But playing Mexico is a good matchup for the United States; it helps them get a sense of one of their CONCACAF opponents before World Cup qualifying in October, and it could help poke at the roster but with slightly less intensity than the pressure cooker of SheBelieves’ lineup of opponents. (Only slightly though, especially if Mexico brings a roster of young, hungry players fresh off a successful first season of Liga MX Femenil.)
