Well this is certainly a bit of a surprise. It had been rumored for months that US Men’s National Team winger Christian Pulisic could be on the move come transfer season. Last February, Sports Illustrated reported that the teen may have been headed to Liverpool this summer from Borussia Dortmund. Now it seems like he could be packing his bags to go to England, but his destination would be London rather than Merseyside.
The outlet is now reporting that Pulisic is drawing interest from Tottenham Hotspur. According to SI, Dortmund have put the price tag for Pulisic at about £40 million and the London club is willing to meet it. This would represent an exciting opportunity for Pulisic who would join a team led by a tactically innovative manager in Mauricio Pochettino, assuming he stays with the club, who also demands a high level of physical fitness form his players.
As far as where he would fit in, well it seems clear that Pulisic would have to continue to earn a starting role in a top league in the world. Between Son Heung-min, Erik Lamela, Christian Eriksen, and Dele Alli, Spurs are packed with attacking talent. Still, the move makes sense for a club looking to increase its appeal to an American market. Tottenham will open a new stadium this season that was designed with the ability to accommodate NFL football. Adding the most talented American soccer player to the mix would only help marketing the team that much more.
In addition, Pulisic has shown that he can hold his own in one of the most technical leagues in the world. If Tottenham hopes to catch up with Manchester City this coming season, not to mention make a push in European competition, a winger with terrific vision, pace, and ball skills would be an asset to the club.
