Germany v Sweden: Group F - 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images

Groups E and F conclude play today and things are still interesting if you’re Team Chaos. South Korea and Costa Rica have been eliminated, but when you’re out and have nothing to lose, sometimes the grim satisfaction of playing spoiler can lead to unexpected overall results.

In Group E, it’s Serbia vs Brazil and Switzerland vs Costa Rica. Both Brazil and Switzerland only need ties to advance, while Serbia needs to win outright in order to stay alive.

FIFA

In Group F, we have South Korea vs Germany and Mexico vs Sweden. Many people, me included, had Germany pegged to advance deep into the tournament, if not outright taking the whole shebangabang, but after their loss to Mexico and a hold-on-to-your-butts last-second win against Sweden, who knows what dramatics are in store when they play South Korea. Probably they’ll come away with three points, but if Sweden defeats Mexico, then it goes to goal difference as the first tiebreaker. That makes it imperative for Germany to rack up as many goals as they can in this last game of group in order to assure a path to R16. As for Mexico, there’s still a chance they could get knocked out, once again depending on goal differential (or possibly goals scored, if we have to keep going down the list of tiebreakers, etc.).

FIFA

There’s a lot of question marks here. You may be one of the people hoping for tiebreakers to eliminate Mexico. Or perhaps you’re just Team Chaos and want to see champs Germany sent home. There’s a scenario where Brazil leaves early as well (good luck with that Serbia!) so today could be fire.
