According to a report in Wales, Swansea City are close to sealing the signing of Tottenham Hotspur and United States Men’s National team center back Cameron Carter-Vickers on a season long loan.

Update: It’s official. Cameron Carter-Vickers is a Swan. The club made it official this morning, grabbing the American defender for a season-long loan.

Having just made four senior appearances for Spurs, Carter-Vickers has resorted to loan moves in order to get playing time and experience. A move to Swansea City makes perfect sense for him because they have just two center backs in their squads. Carter-Vickers will get great experiences with this move and he’s expected to see a lot of minute. At his age, he needs to see the field in order to get better. Being in an environment where he’s going to be a leader and commander on the field for Swansea City will only make him a better overall player both on and off the field.

Carter-Vickers played 14 times for Ipswich Town last season in the Championship and became a fan favorite. Carter-Vickers was a force to be reckoned with in the back and his name has been linked to not just Swansea City and Ipswich, but a lot of teams in the Championship. He left a lasting impression on the league. there’s no wonder he’s a wanted man.

From a USMNT perspective, it’s great seeing a young center back thrive in England. Yes, he has not been able to make the Tottenham team consistently, but they’re constantly competing for the top four, they cannot experiment too much at center back. These loan moves allow him to get playing time and continue to stay in form. Remember, he’s just 20 years old, he might eventually become a regular in the Spurs’ squad. But for now, these loan moves he’s been on are perfect because he’s still playing at a higher quality of soccer.

With all that being said, he’s a big commanding center back who needs to be in the USMNT’s future plans. The thing is, he wouldn’t be if he was not getting game time for Tottenham, so for now, Swansea City needs to be his destination.
