Report: Ian Harkes signs with Dundee United

Harkes becomes the latest American to move to Scotland

MLS: Vancouver Whitecaps at D.C. United Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

According to Scott Burns of the Scottish Daily Express, former D.C. United midfielder Ian Harkes has signed a two year deal with Scottish Championship (second division) side Dundee United.

Dundee is currently third in the Scottish Championship (the champion is automatically promoted. The second through fourth place teams enter a playoff to determine the other side that is promoted)

Harkes signed with D.C. as a homegrown player in 2017 and was a fixture in D.C.’s starting lineup in the 2017 MLS season.

The 23-year-old central midfielder was out-of-contract with D.C. United and Steven Goff reported that he was likely to leave, after hardly playing during the 2018 MLS season. Goff also wrote that Harkes had applied for a British passport.

Harkes has featured for the USMNT U-20 side and was part of the 2018 USMNT Janaury camp, but has yet to appear for the senior national team. He is the son of former USMNT midfielder John Harkes.

Do you think this is a good move for Harkes?
