Could the American midfielder be joining the Premier League leaders?

According to Mike McGrath of The Sun, Liverpool is considering making a £20 million (approximately $26 million at the time of writing) bid for United States Men’s National Team and Schalke 04 central midfielder Weston McKennie.

McGrath’s report suggests that the move could come during this transfer window or the summer. McKennie has been solid, if unspectacular, making 19 appearances with 2 goals and 2 assists this season. However, Schalke has been underperforming and sits 13th in the Bundesliga table.

McKennie would bolster an already strong Liverpool side that features defensive, attacking, and box-to-box central midfielders such as Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keita, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Adam Lallana (who’s rumored to be leaving soon).

Liverpool currently sits atop the Premier League and will face Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.

In 2018, McKennie emerged as an integral member of the USMNT. He earned 6 caps and formed a solid partnership with Tyler Adams. McKennie could become the second young American to move to the Premier League, after Christian Pulisic sealed a move that will see him join Chelsea in the summer.

Do you think this would be a good move for McKennie?
