As we all know, the United States Men’s National Team has two must-win matches coming up next month in the CONCACAF Nations League. First, they face Canada, who beat the USMNT 2-0 in Toronto, on November 15th in Orlando. They then travel to the Cayman Islands to face Cuba in their final group stage match. They not only have to win both games, but they must do so by a total of 4 goals to advance to the Nations League playoffs.
A lot has been said about the effort of the players on the field against Canada back on October 15th, and it’s all warranted. Still, there is clearly a lot of talent in the player pool that should carry the day against Canada at home in a convincing way if they can put it all together. However, today’s Community Corner is about player selection for that match.
The question this week: which player would you call up to the roster that you think would be the most essential to the USMNT’s chances of winning both matches in November? Let’s assume for the discussion that players who would have been on the October roster if healthy, like Tyler Adams, John Brooks, and Jozy Altidore, are healthy and are already on the roster. Which one player do you think, if added, would provide a dynamic that will help see the USMNT through? Is it someone like Sergiño Dest, who announced his full commitment to the USMNT earlier this week? Is it Fabian Johnson, who has expressed his interest in getting back into the national team picture? Is it someone like Alfredo Morales, Antonee Robinson, or Tim Weah? Or, is it someone else?
Hit the comments, pick one player, and discuss why you think that player is most vital to the USMNT getting a couple huge wins and winning the group.
